Show 1009 This trip took them down the west side of the Colorado River. The land in that vicinity is principally valuable for grazing purposes and he did not see any houses or people during the trip. From Hite he proceeded on down to his ranch at Red Canyon, came back to Hite, and went out to Greenriver. R. 2384. The next time he went on the Green River was in September of 1914, when he made a trip with Mr. John Richardson of the Reclamation Service, for the purpose of drilling some [ test holes] at the junction of the two rivers [ Green and Colorado]. the trip was made from Greenriver down to Wimmer's ranch in a wagon and Wimmer's ranch to the junction in a power boat named Marguerite, twenty- five feet long, seven foot beam, stern wheel, and with about twelve horsepower marine engine. R. 2385. At the break between Labyrinth and Stillwater a barge called the Betsy Ann was backed up and lashed to the Marguerite and taken down the river. Mr. Wimmer picked his barge up at that place, lashed the two together and went on down. Members of the party consisted of Kirk Gregory, Mr. Wimmer and himself. He does not remember anything concerning the supplies or equipment of the boat. Mr. Wimmer operated the boat as captain. The water in the river was low and he remembers an incident or two where sand bars were struck but nothing serious, " the boats were pretty light." R. 2386. The Betsy Ann had no power and it was lashed in front of the Marguerite and pushed along down the river. The total length of the combined boats was approximately fifty feet.
