Show 974 " A No; whenever you have a flood you have sand waves. " Q Do the sand waves come after a flood? " A Comes during the flood." R. 2314- 2315. On the trip back up the river the boat was dragged up because there was not sufficient water to row in and they needed the boat to carry what little grub and bedding they had. The Pintes used to be there - " that is where Old Posey and that bunch used to hold out; I used to know several of them, one they called Mike Indian, another Jim, and Old George; a bunch of them lived down there; they had little farms, raised a little corn along the bank of the river." R. 2317. From there he went to Bluff, and then to Moab by horseback, and the rest of the boys went with the wagon. " Q Now, while you were over there in the San Juan river, did you see any other boats other than this one you have mentioned? " A Yes sir, there was a fleet of two boats, two row boats sixteen feet long, left Bluff loaded with provisions, and I think there was five men with the two boats: I was one of them; we went down to about half- way down Honaker trail, to Johns canyon, I know; I remember that very distinctly." R. 2318. He can not remember the month this trip was taken but |
