Show accident, or if the mission crew has replaced a previous crew, a precise search is indicated. This i6 a conscientious search according to an exact prior plan and has to be carried out according to all the rules applying to rescue missions. Inspection* As previously mentioned, the avalanche has to be inspected prior to every mission* The search is never started at just any arbitrary place. Inspection prior to the rough search is quick in order to save time and superficial. However, inspection preceding the precise search has to be exact and comprehensive. The following is inspected: Type of avalanche, form of the avalanche, avalanche flow ( visible objects)* Shape of terrain and its cover. Damming of the avalanche. ( Debris deposition) Burial and last- seen points ( if known) As is well known, the sum total of these characteristics determines the urgent search area. The avalanche is not trampled by the entire crew. The mission leader, the avalanche dog leader, a few experienced members of the crew and the witnesses walk on the avalanche. Walking on the avalanche should be mainly along the edges in order to spare the search dogs additional difficulties* Important points, such as burial or disappearance points, or spots where pieces of equipment are sighted during the walking inspection of the avalanche, have to be marked. The search plan* After examining the avalanche dimensions and burial conditions and then assessing the means of rescue at hand, that is, the strength, composition and equipment of the rescue crew, the search plan is made out. How best to use the existing means. The plan must not have only short- term validity, so that it has to be changed after each arrival of reinforcements. It has to be a long- term plan, devised in such a way that reinforcements can be fitted in well* Also, reinforcements must be able to continue the plan until its purpose is accomplished• - R7 - |
