Show The purpose of this exercise is to let the dog get used to the scent of strangers as well as to the scent of his master and to receive praise and delicacies from them. Phase IV. In the fourth exercise the helper is buries, as described above, in the same snow hole which has been prepared again* The dog leader, who had gone with his dog to the starting point of the exercise, now acts exactly in the same manner as the helper did previously* He caresses the dog, talks to him encouragingly and sharpens him for the search. Hereupon, the search for the stranger begins as described above* The buried helper must not forget the delicacy, which he has to hold in readiness* Recapitulation: 1. The leashed dog is kept on the left side. Talk to the dog; scratch him gently. " Sharpen" the dog for the search ( spur him on). Send the dog on the search and continue to spur M m on. Go yourself to the center of the search area and watch the dog. 6. Praise the dog loudly when sending him off and hurry after hira. 7. Help the dog at once with his digging, either with your hands or with a shovel taken along. 8.
