Q On those trips that you have thus far mentioned, where you went up stream rowing, poling and towing, I wish you would state if you can approximately the percentage of the time that you would row and pole and tow. A Well, that is a little hard; I can make maybe a general estimate, but it would depend on the stretch of the river you was on; if you are in easy water you would row, usually; if you are on a swifter water you might tow or you might pole. Q I assume it would depend also somewhat on the ground you had to walk on? A Yes sir, and the stage of the water. In low water you got good ground a lot of the way, could tow along; you might get out and tow along just for a change; it is a change, if you are going up stream, even if it is the same class of water, to row for a while, pole a while and tow a while. It gives you a variety of work. While it is all work, it is a change. Q Who did you say it was that went with you on this |
