Show 6921 Chaffin- D 4909 A During that period Mr. Strauss and a party came down from Dandy crossing and stopped there at our bar, done some prospecting, panning. Q How many boats did they have? A Two boats. Q How many men were there in the party? A There were five men, as I remember, and two ladies. Q What were the sizes of the boats that party used? A I would say about sixteen or eighteen- foot boats. Q Flat bottom? A I presumed they were. Q And do you know who the ladies were, do you recall? A One of the ladies was Mrs. Strauss, his wife, the other lady I don't recall, she was one of the other gentleman's wife, from Boston. Q From Boston, you say? A Yes, I understand they were from Boston. Q Where did the Strauss party go from Moquie bar, up or down stream? A They went on down below Hall creek, what is called the Little Anderson bar, about a mile below Hall creek. Q Do you know of your own knowledge whether Mr. Strauss worked that bar? |
