He recalls working for the New York Post and the New York City Radio Station during World War II, and coming to Salt Lake City, Utah, to work for KALL Radio after the war. He talks about politics in Utah, the civil rights and socialist movements, and his move from newspaper and radio to television. 71 pages. |

Show the church's station which is KSL and KSL-TV take care of its problems which were constantly being raised. By that time the Civil Rights Movement was pushing into various things in Salt Lake. We'd had, you kn~w, like a Marian Anderson problem at the Hotel Utah. There was much more talk about students on the campus being given equal opportunities, black, white or otherwise. Oddly enough, I guess, I always felt that the problem of the blacks was they paralleled a symbol of prob-lems to the problems of the Jews. Certainly back East. Here in Salt Lake I never, this is a long aside, from the time that I got here I'd always felt that boy, you are in a community where really is not the kind of anti-semitism that exists in many other parts of the United States whether it's in Westchester, you know, back in New York, the suburbs or in the "better clubs" in New York or by that time there were books like, or movies like Gregory Peck or somebody in a movie about not being admitted to his wife's folks country club or something like that. Those things were more and more explored in New York in the press and things were loosening up for Jews more and more and more. And much more slowly for blacks. Or for that matter for Puerto Ricans or for Italians or what have you. In the Ivy League Colleges but when I got here I said, gee whiz, you know, really there are Jewish emembers in the country club.
