This folder contains interviews conducted on different occasions by Leslie Kelen and Sandra Fuller. Rose (b. 1911) discusses his family background and childhood in Poland, including anti-Semitic feelings there. He continues his story with the economic situation, Krystalnacht, Jewish ghettos, World War II, his experience in concentration camps (particularly in Auschwitz), living conditions and religious life, liberation by American soldiers, and life in post-war Germany. Other topics covered include traveling to the United States, the Salt Lake Jewish community, orthodox Judaism, and the merger of the Salt Lake congregations. 137 pages. |

Show OHI Isaac Rose 23 July 82 Sl:l4 and whatevezyou buy for the hdliday. Now , the Congregation Montefoire felt obligated to their members to provide them with Passover sup-plies. So we used to bring fromthe outs~de some warehouse's matzos, and sell them to the members. As long as the congregation limited l the 11 . themse ves to se lng of matzo s only, everything was fine. Because we had to provide matzos for everybody . And I don't think it was more than a carload. But later on, they started selling fish, and other delicatessen stuff, bhe things that Dornbush was selling . An~ is burned him up. I 'm not a special ... . I wouldn ' t say I was a good friend 0f Dornbush , but I think he was , to a certain degree , he was right. Because after all, this was his livelihood . After the Congregation cuts into his business , he ' slosing some money . The first [thing] he did , he resigned from the Congregation Montefiore . Even though he was from a very traditional background . And he knows how to read and he knows how to pray , and everything else , he resigned from the Congregation Montefiore and joined the Reform temple. I told you , during the time when we were separated, occasionally once a year or twice a year , we had some joint services. They used to come to the Hontefiore building and we used to go to the B'nai Israel building . Well , the rule is when you're n Rome, you do like the Romans. The Congregation of B'nai Israel didnt use any head covering during theffirvices. So when I used to go over there I didn't use any covering. I didn't want to offend anyone. But I noticed that several times when I carne over that Dornbush was wearing a head covering. Now, he brought this head covering from Montefiore and even though |
