Show OHI Isaac Rose 16 June 82 sl:l8 showed a lot of western movies. LK From the United States? IR Yeah! Tom Mix, Cowboy movies, Elmo Lincoln, Harry Peal - and then another big thing was all the detective~vies. All the American productions, but then we got the big ones, the French and Italian productions. This was good movies. You left themovie house , something - you'd be reliving it. When the film was rolling, you felt like a part of it. Like "The Last Days of Pompeii" or "The Ten Commandments." The original ones. Cecil. B. DeMille's. It was something different than what you see now and, of course, making these movies cost a lot of money. You couldn't afford it nowad.tty~· ~ Pictures with Robinson C~usoe. The whole story of him going on a ship, being shipwrecked, spending so many years on a desert island someplace on an islated island. This was a big thing. Of ourse, later on, we got Al Jolson and all the rest of them. LK The first talking? IR The first Al Jolson, the second Al Jolson and then the big Broadway productions made in Hollywood. ' Rhapsody in Blue." We got all the movies, yah. LK What did you think of America in those years? IR Oh, I got a good idea what was going on in America because we studied American history in School and I would read all kinds of Jack London Books, and My -------, Zane Gray, and all the American writers. The Wild West was an obsession with me, too. The West here. I knew a bt about the United States. I knew the history . |
