Show OHI Isaac Rose 23 July 82 sl:6 minutes to a sermon, which either covered some current events, some current topics, or was strictly limited to the old history. Because, as I told you before, we read every week a portion of the Torah. We read about SO portions a year . Sometimes, he will tell a story about Moses and the Exodus from Egypt. He would dwell on the sub l r.: ~-r a TJt:G some fine points, .!'.'o/J'?c1 commentaries, some of his own. There is a story, for instance, about the binding of Isaac, the attempted sacrificial goat. And he would try to point out why this happened , and what was behind [it]. Then [he'd] put in maybe some other perspecitves into it. The old and the new, which is a thing to do and people enjoy this kind of sermon. Now, after the service, which usually finishes 9-9:15, there is always a social gathering downstairs where the ladies serve coffee cake, tea and maybe something else. Sometimes even after the services, we used tohave some groups from other demoninations, some Protestants and Mormons. A group of 20 people used to go ciU~~ with us and fire questions at the rabbi. SF Really? IR Yeah. They fired questions at the rabbi. Asked him questions about rituals. Things they didn't understand or things they wanted to know. And the rabbi answered them the best he could. Some really stumped him, you know. Like some--questions--maybe they--Especially from Mormon missionaries. They tried to be very aggressive. They tried to convert everybody. They feel they are 24 hours on call. And even (when] they come to a Jewish house |
