Show Occupational Fatalities (1993 Occupational Fatalities in Utah = 59) Utah's average annual rate of fatalities per 100,000 workers is higher than the nation's. Work-related injury deaths by age, gender, industry, and occupation are important in understanding the nature of occupational fatalities in Utah. Of the 655 occupational fatalities from 1980 to 1989,96% of the civilian fatalities were male. Workers 30-34 years of age constitute the largest proportion of occupational fatalities in Utah (18%), and workers 25-29 years of age account for approximately 17.5% of the occupational fatalities.1 By Industry By industry, mining fatalities rank the highest in Utah, with an average annual rate from 1980-1989 of 79.5 per 100,000 workers. Transportation, Communication and Public Utilities ranks as the second highest rate of fatal injuries, with 132 total deaths and an average annual mortality of 39.4. Construction ranks third with a rate of 33.3. Retail Trade had the lowest rate (1.6 per 100,000 workers). Table 50.
