Dear Professor Atiya: It was indeed a pleasure to meet you and Mrs. Atiya and to come to know more of your recent and monumental discoveries. Count me among the many who look forward to the completion and early - publication of your Catalogue. Needless to say that I am interested in any study growing out of your varied interests. I am currently reading your Sawlrus. Thank you for the copy of The Crusades in the Later Middle Ages - a work with which I have for long been familiar, as have also my history students. You will note that my interest in early palimpsets, Arabic on Arabic, is one of long standing and that it includes some of the Mt. Sinai manuscripts (North Arabic Script, p.2U,n.U6). Mrs. Atiya will no doubt be willing, by now, to let you lay a hand on this reference.' lou are indeed fortunate to have so cnarming a "faculty wife" who takes such interest in her husband's works, even to the reading of CataloguesJ lie here have very pleasant memories of your visit with us and I, for one, will always be happy to see you both here or in Egypt, insha'allah. In the meantime, let us hear from you when the "Spirits of your Manuscripts" so move. With the best of wishes, Sincerely yours, IIA-gc N. Abbott |
