Show HONORARIES /ff Dona McLavern Gerald L. Fowles Ann Castleton Bona Belliston <DBK Farrell Edwards Phi Beta Kappa For honor in scholastic endeavors and for service to the intellectual community, two doctorate candidates and 16 seniors were tapped for Phi Beta Kappa. This national scholastic honorary held an initiation banquet in the spring for chosen initiates. An alumni chapter worked to select the new members and sponsored the on-campus functions. Head of this group was Dr. Max Carruth of the Sociology department. Students were chosen on the basis of scholarship, generally above 3.75 for an accumulative grade point average; on the basis of their major in the liberal arts and sciences; and for their contribution to the university community, either in their field or in campus activities. Upon initiation, new members were presented the honored Phi Beta Kappa key, symbol of high undergraduate accomplishment. Members who are not pictured are: Joan C. Barnett, Brent D. Bradley, Margot R. Cannon, Edward M. Eyring, Martha J. Hardman, Charles D. Hendricks, Douglas J. Holmes, Mamoru Iga, John Ralph Macfarlane, Darrell Minnig, David Newman, John R. Sherman, and Larry D. Thatcher. 257 |
