"Diplomatic Recognition to Red China" was the controversial question debated by the Utah debate team this year. Veteran debate coach George Adamson was joined by Robert Mukai, former Utah debator, in instructing students. The debate program is open to all interested students. Unlike many universities, the University of Utah tries to develop many good debators rather than coach only a handful of students. Because of this liberal program, up to a hundred debators compete in tournaments off the Utah campus each year. Debate meets this year included the Rocky Mountain meet in Colorado, the annual invitational Linfield Tournament in McMinnville, Oregon, and the Tau Kappa Alpha meet in Columbus, Ohio. Debators Roger Noall, Joanne Savage, and JoAnn Webb board bus for Linfield Tournament. 46 |
