Show EVENTS W.R.A. Carniva April Fool's Day was heralded by the riotous WRA Carnival, under the direction of Marlene Wessel. Actually starting March 31 with afternoon construction, the rear of the Fieldhouse filled with Utes transporting booth frames to their lot, filling water tanks for dunking booths, cooking carnival hot dogs and pronto pups. Nightmare Alley, Drowsy Drive, Insomnia Lane and Sandman Circle were signs posted to lead carnival goers to colorful booths grouped around the building. For food lovers, independents and Greeks baked oversized cakes. Kappa Kappa Gamma displayed a Child's Street of Dreams in cake frosting and candles, and Sigma Pi built a cake toy town for affiliated trophies. Intercollegiate Knights took the independent prize in the cake division. With a thirty foot high booth, Delta Delta Delta dunked bathing beauties in a water barrel and Sigma Chi's tossed rings over geese for first prizes. Air Force Sponsors took the independent trophy for booths. A unique king and queen contest featured original songs and costumes for the candidates. Bill Wagner, Newman Club, and Patti Ruff, Alpha Chi Omega, sang for their title of Mr. Nightmare and Miss Day Dream of 1955. Delta Gamma and Sigma Pi won trophies for selling the most tickets per organization.
