D. 1880, certain ohiafs and headmen of the confederated bauds of the Ute tribe of Indians in Colorado, then in Washington City, did submit to the Secretary of the Interior sn agreemeut for the sale of the present reservation of theoonfederated bends of said tribe of Indians, situate, lying, end being in the State of Colorado, their settlement upon lands in severalty, and for ot,her pur-poses, ahich aaid agreement wns approved by the President of the United States and transmitted ta Congress far aoceptaxrce and ratification, and the necessary legislation to carry the same into effect; aod, Whereas, by an act approved June 15;1880, entitled "An sot to moept and ratify the agreement submitted by the oonfederated bnnda of Ute Indiaosin Colorado fortha sale of their reservation in said State, and for other purposes, and to make thtx nacessary appropriations for oarrying out the same," Congress did acoept, ratifs, and ooolirm said agreemaut, with certain amelldment~th erero, as in aaid act set forth, which said agreements and smendmauts are embodied in said act of Congres~; sod, Whereas the said agreetrlent and the amendmerits thereto, with the several sections of said act of Congress relating to the same, to ail of whioh refareooe is here had and made for certainty, have each and n,ll been snbtuitted to said oonfederated baods of Ute Iudinns in Colorado, by George W. Maegpenny. Alfred B. Meaoharn, John B Bow-man, John J. Russell, aud Otto Mears, commissiooerr appointed by the Presirlent of the Uoitrd States in pursuance of eaid act of Congress, for their oouaidarrtiou and ratification ; and, Whereas said agreement and the ameodments t,hereto, together with the provisions of eachaud every section of said act of Congress, have been carefully and fully ex-plained snd interpreted in open oouooil to the confederated bauds of said Ute tribe of Iodians, and considered hy said Indiana in their ow" oouooila: Now, therefore, be it kuoau, that in cooaideretion of the beneficial provisions in hehalf of the confederated bands of said Ute tribe of Iodians contained in ssid agree-ment aod said act of Congress. aod relying upon the good faitb of tbe Government of the United States for the faithful fillfiliment of each and every stipulation in babaifof said Iodians contained in said agreement sod in said act of Caogrens, the chiefa, head-men, and other adult male melrbers of the confederated bandaof the Ute tribe of In-dians in Colorado do accept, ratify, and confitm asid agreement as amended by ssid act of Coogress, and do hereby cede, sell, and ooovev to the United States all right, title, interest, and olsim of said confederated bands of Iodisosin and to said Ute reser-vation, excepting and reserving such lands an t,he,La. Plata River and in its vioinity and on thsGrand River near the mouth of the Gonoison River, as may, on exploration, in pursuance of the provisions of naid act of Congress, be selected and set apart for the whole or a part of the Southern and Unaompehgre Utes to remove to tsod settle on as contempliltetl by said agreement, and also suoh tract or trseta of land as s?y individual Indlsn or Indians, male or fsmele, of said tribe alaim and now occupy lo severalty.
