From it nrigham Young allegedly staled, "This is the place"; for the valley lying before him he had seen in a vision as the destined home for his people. Just 1I0rth of the mouth of the canyon on a bench ofland overlooking the valley, the Mormons built Pioneer Monument in 1947 as a memorial to their forebears.
