Show This home was built by Alfred Green, who may have lived in it for a short time. Peter C. and Mettie Rasmussen purchased it in 1902 from James Paine for $4,000. In 1916 Jordan School District bought it for the residence of the Draper Park School Principal, Reid Beck, who later became the owner. Reid Beck was born May 16, 1887 in Spring City, Utah. His college training took place at Brigham Young University. In 1908 he entered the teaching profession and was appointed principal of Maeser School in 1912. Draper resident, J.R. Allen coaxed Mr. Beck away to serve as principal of Draper School in 1917. He served there for 26 years and was instrumental in the building of the large and valuable art collection which still exists at Draper Elementary. Reid treated a child as an equal and in becoming acquainted he would say, in a pleasant voice, "My name is Reid Beck, will you tell me your name?". He was a friend to all and very much a part of the lives of those who knew him. Four bedrooms were originally in the upstairs of the home-each with a walk-in closet. The banister is original as well as the stained glass windows and transoms in the home. The dining room was originally a parlor with a marble fireplace. West of the . house were vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and · a shanty used for laundry with a cellar underneath for produce storage. Curved flower gar.....dens were on the east and north sides. Today the home is owned by Bill and Shannon Moedl. |
