Thevariety ofthe coloursof thefe flowers areyery much, for fomeare wholly white, fome of ableworviolet colour, o- thers of a blufh or fleth colour, or deepe or paléred,or ofa dead purple, or dead murtey colour, as nature liftcth to fhewit felfe. 2, Aquilegia vulgarisflore plewo, Double Colombines: The double Colombinesdiffer not in leafe or mannerof growing from thefingle, fothat vntill they come to flower, they cannot bee difcerned one fromanother; the onely difference is, it beareth very thicke and doubl¢ flowers,that is, many hornedor crooked hollow leaues fet together, and are not folarge as the Icaues of the fingle flowers,’ The variety Of colours in this double kinde’isas plentifull, or rather more then in the fingle ; for ofthefe there is party coloured’, blew and white , and{potted very variably, whichare notin the fingle kinde, and alfoa vety deepéted,very thicke and double, but a {maller flower,and leffe plentifulin bearing then matiy of the other double forts. Thefe double kindes doe gitteas good feedeasthe fingl¢ kindes doc, Whichis not obferued in manyotherplants. 3. Aquilegiaiuuerfis carnicults, Doubleinuetred Colombines. Thefe Colombines are not to be diftinguifhed eyther in roote, leauesjor feed from the former, the flowers onely make the difference, which are as double as the former, but that the heeles or hornes of thefe are turned inward, and ftand out inthe middle of as the flowers together: there isnot that plentiful! variety of colours in thiskinde, thereisin the former: for I never faw aboue three or foure feuerall colours :inde, “4: 29 |
