She throws another paper clip, and it lands on the typewriter in front of the secretary. She looks up, and Marty points to the door, and then to the receiver, and back to the door. The secretary continues to look at her blankly. Her mother bursts into tears, describing how difficult it is for squirrels to get into the bird feeder. Marty puts her hand over the receiver and says, "I'm really sorry. It's a personal call. Would you mind leaving, and closing the door behind you?" The secretary looks from her to the typewriter, and then points at the piece of paper in the machine. "But Bernie..." "I know. I'll explain it to him. I promise. But it's important. Please leave." The secretary stands up, looking at her desk, and starts organizing piles as if she is getting ready to leave for the day. "...And your father doesn't understand.
