Show 2.3.2 INSTRUCTION MANUAL: STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE OF HOW TO TURN BACTERIA INTO A PORTRAIT 1. To see bacteria as a portrait, first, let's unlearn, relearn, and reinvent the science of the 10 facts above: A. Think of bacteria as the thing that became the human that eventually became you (facts 1-5). B. Think of bacteria as impressions, and memories, and moments of delight and satiation. Think of bacteria as a time that was neither elated, nor unhappy, but equilibrium; content. Think of bacteria as a risk, and danger, and as a bad influence (fact 6). C. Remember that you are the company that you keep (fact 7). D. Think of bacteria as the mystery behind the white walls of the Art World, or the moment that you walked away from the self that you have always known, and then had to unlearn and relearn yourself (fact 8). E. Like the adage, " you are the company you keep," think of bacteria as, "you are what you eat." What I mean by this is, that you are a reflection of what and with whom you surround yourself, and what you take in, and every decision you make is influenced by those surroundings (fact 9). F. Even if every detail of yourself and life is in tandem with another person, you are still uniquely and wholly you (fact 10). 2. Define Portrait: I choose to use the definition used by the Tate. A portrait is a representation of a particular person. A self-portrait is a portrait of the artist by the artist. 3. Re-read step one, while considering the definition from step two. 36 |
