Show with members of my family, combing through public records and newspaper clippings, what I was doing by sending a DNA test out, was looking for relationships. People are hardly ever made up, solely, by who they say they are. People are what they take in. People are what they leave behind. People are made up of impressions, memories, echoes of laughter and roars of anger. People are made up of the stories that are told about them, and the lone sweater found on the bus. People are made up of their hobbies, of their jobs, of the food they eat, the places they live, and the materials they wear. People are made up of the macro and micro, the mega and mini relationships that they have with the world, and all that they encounter within it. People are made up of what they take in, and what they leave behind. People are, literally and figuratively, made up of the things they touch. From everything they touch, a little piece remains. With that in mind, I decided to redefine The Portrait. 31 |
