Show Of course Ongo Gablogian is meant to be taken as seriously as his wig, but there is something true about the way he presented himself as an art collector. While Art often has a sense of humor, sometimes the people in this world take themselves so seriously, and search for something so new that it becomes farcical instead. At least to those on the outside looking in. ******* Like the interviews in which a famous actress denies the incredible (and admirable, albeit possibly unhealthy) discipline and dedication required to maintain a hirable image, instead choosing to only proclaim, "Good genetics! And good genetics only," Art clings to the denial of anything other than TAG as its muse. And yet, this is entirely untrue. Art will also deny anything without a backbone of rigorous academic research, and thousands of hours logged, reading art rhetoric and theory, that must supported by a healthy stable of hundreds of artists credited as influences in your work today. Derivative art will be accepted, on a case-by-case basis, if we claim it as appropriation, reappropriation, or if you are Jeff Koons. This doesn't mean that Koons has been granted some kind of Art Amnesty. I believe, and will haughtily claim, that Art hates (and simultaneously loves) Jeff Koons, too. He just capitalizes off of it. Perhaps the Art World pays Koons so handsomely because, from their laude and derision of him, he is risen as (Contemporary) Art, the Archetypal Man. 3 |
