Show 66 ^T*Chua hung his head and did not answer. Clawing Eagle flapped his wings, and gave Chua courage. "I must go now," he said. "No so fast," the chief said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I need to know I can trust you if you are to be friends with Toho." "I didn't say I wanted Toho for a friend," Chua said raising his head to look at the chief. "I still need to know a little more about you if you are living so close to us and using our water," the Chief said. Chosovi had been perched on Chua's head. Now she ruffled her blue feathers and jumped to Chua's shoulder. "Your bird is beautiful," said the Chief. He reached over and took Chosovi on his finger. Kwaaa," shrieked Chosovi and returned to Chua's shoulder. That's not like Chosovi, thought Chua. She sees the unfriendliness of the chief, too. The chief reached for the bird again. As she raised'her wings to fly away from him, his hand came down on top of her. He grabbed her feet and head so she couldn't fly or peck him. "I need my bird," said Chua. "You don't need this bird," said the chief to Chua smiling a crooked smile. "A small clan like yours can't perform the ceremonies anyway, so there is no need for you to have the powerful blue feathers of this bird." "I don't have the bird for her feathers," Chua said. "She's my friend." |
