Show 21 Chua felt desperate to be with his father. The words tumbled out of him like a spring waterfall over the cliff. "Slow down and listen," his father said. "You must find peace inside yourself. Then wisdom will come to you." "But I am angry and afraid," Chua said. "You were able to let go of the anger when you had the snake in your mouth. You can do it again." "I hate and fear Ahote at the same time. What will happen to us?" "You will find the wisdom inside you," his father said. "I don't know what to do." "If you are peaceful, your inner voice will guide you," his father said. "And you will be able to hear me also." Chua's fists opened and closed. "Just tell me what to do. I don't want to figure it out for myself." "If I tell you everything, you will learn nothing but obedience," his father said. "You are already obedient." "This is too hard," Chua said. The voice was gone and so was the picture in his head, but the warmth and peace of his father remained. Chua didn't have inner wisdom, did he? He did feel peaceful and that was enough for now. As he walked from the entrance of the cave out into the sunlight, he felt the added warmth of Father Sun. Chua climbed below to rest near his mother, but he wouldn't tell her abouthis father. For now he would keep the voice just for himself. He felt warm inside. |
