Show 55 There was also a curious-looking large square made of knotted rope. Strong rope made of yucca fibers was tied together at short intervals, about as far apart as the length of Chua's thumb. There were also kachina masks that represented spirits of the dead. Kachinas came to bring rain and help people. They were clan members who had gone on to the next world. Chua looked for salt. There was none. After studying all the items in the room, Chua walked back around the snake wall into the kiva. He brushed away his footprints from the dusty kiva floor and climbed the ladder. No one would know he had been there, or that he had found a splendid secret room. Chua sat down in the large open gathering place above the kiva to think. What should he do? Clawing Eagle would keep his heart closed. Deep down inside, he wanted to let Clawing Eagle go. He wanted a clan again that would be like a family. He wanted a grandmother.
