Show 4586 Freeze- D 2605 Q What kind of boat? A We had two little launches, one steel boat, as I remember it, that they called a Mullin boat. We had a wooden boat there at first, regular row boat. Q What kind of motive power did those boats have? A Gasoline engine. Q For what purpose were those boats used? A The first one, they were going to use it for bringing coal down on the barge; they going to build a little scow and bring coal down to the ferry, but they couldn't make the trips up there with it; they did use it for pleasure perhaps once or twice to my recollection. Q The other launch, for what purpose was that used? A Just to be Handy around there at the ferry when they wanted to get some wood in there out of the river, and so forth, to bring it in to shore. Q Can you tell me the approximate month in the year that you left Lees Ferry? A I left there, I think it w as about the 1st of Sep-tember in 1911, about the time I went up to Paria. I stayed in there until Christmas. Q What was the condition of the machinery with refer-ence to whether or not it was in operation when you left? A Wasn't any of it in operation. Q Where was the boat, the big boat, the Spencer? |
