Show 4576 Freeman- C 2595 and my Elto, I know, was three horsepower. Q When you went tandem up the river, having one engine to each of two boats, were those two engines that were still in commission the Evinrudes, or one Evinrude. A My Elto had gone, and one Evinrude was gone. Q Then there were two Evinrudes? A Yes. Q That were either three or four horsepower each? A Yes. Q That is all the power except man power you had on that up- trip? A All the power except man power. Q You stated that your trip down from Hall's Crossing was very much simpler and easier, attended with less obstruction and difficulties than your trip up? A Necessarily and essentially so, yes sir. Q That was because of the absence of power going up, wasn't it? A That was on account of the presence of power going down in our favor rather than the power of the river against us going up; just the difference the current makes, inseparable from all up and down stream navigation. Q By the way, Mr. Freeman, you haven't been over to the Colorado river at Moab? |
