Q From a place they had a coal mine, I understood up about thirty miles up the river, Warm creek; around in that district; I never was there. Q Do you know how many trips that boat made? A Three, in my recollection. Q Approximately how much coal did it being in? A The first time it had about three or four tons on the front of the deck; the second time it had a little more; the third time had about fifteen or twenty tons. Q For what purpose is this coal used? A Firing the boilers at Lees Ferry for the pumps. Q During how many months while you were at Lees Ferry was the mining machinery in operation? A Off and on about three months, altogether. They couldn't operate continuously, because didn't have any fuel. Q Did you use any other kind of fuel besides the coal? A Yes, used drift wood out of the river. We had several Indaina that got it out right along. Q Was the coal used as kind of a supplementary fuel? A When they had it, yes, they used it, but they didn't have very much of it. |
