The weight of the sand makes them dangerous. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Have you ever observed these sand waves on any other rivers you have been on? A Have no recollection of them. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Where did you first hear the term, " sand wave", do you remember? A In connection with the Colorado, -- I am not sure, probably from one of the engineers of the survey, speaking of a voyage on the San Juan and the danger of the sand waves even in ferrying the river. That may have been in conversation with Mr. La Rue. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Strike all that answer except the first part of it. You said " probably". THE WITNESS: Probably in conversation with one of the geological engineers who had mentioned a trip on the San Juan and the dangers of it. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Strike out that " and the dangers of it." |
