Show Central Utah Participating Project, Vernal Unit, Utah The principal features of the Vernal unit were placed in operation and maintenance status as of January 1, 1963. The completed features consist of the Steinaker Dam and Reservoir, Fort Thorn-burgh diversion dam, Steinaker feeder canal, Steinaker service canal and laterals, and the Ashley Valley water system, which was built jointly by the Bureau and the Ashley Water Conservancy District. Project drains may be constructed at a later date. The multipurpose unit will furnish a supplemental water supply to 14,700 acres of partially irrigated lands and 1,600 acre-feet of supplemental water annually for municipal use. Emery County Participating Project, Utah The multipurpose Emery County project is located near Hunt-ington and Castle Dale, Emery County, east-central Utah. It will furnish a supplemental irrigation water supply to 18,004 acres of partially irrigated land and a full supply to 771 acres of new land. In addition, the project will provide fish and wildlife and recreation benefits. Construction continued on the earthfill Joes Valley Dam, which was estimated to be 45 percent completed at fiscal year end. Contracts were awarded during the year for construction of the Cotton-wood Creek-Huntington Canal and the Swasey diversion dam. Clearing of the Joes Valley Reservoir area was completed as was the relocation of Utah State Highway 29 around the reservoir area. Work continued on the relocation of Utah State Highways 10 and 236 around the Huntington North Dam and Reservoir. Florida Participating Project, Colorado Work continued on the Florida project located in the San Juan Basin in southwest Colorado. The Lemon Dam was essentially completed during the fiscal year. The Florida farmers diversion dam, and the enlargement of Florida farmers ditch and Florida Canal, were completed in fiscal year 1963. These irrigation facilities have been operated by the Florida Water Conservancy District. The Lemon Dam and Reservoir, still in a construction status at this time, has been operated by the Bureau to provide irrigation water on a rental basis pending final completion of the project.
