The printing of a beautiful, colored brochure entitled "LAKE POWELL, Jewel of the Colorado" emphasizing the recreational potentials of the vast lake in Arizona and Utah created by the construction of Glen Canyon Dam was partially financed by the Commission. A limited number of single copies of this publication are still available upon request from the Upper Colorado River Commission, or they may be purchased from the Superintendent of Documents in Washington, D. C. Congressional Hearings The President's Budget for fiscal 1966 did not contain a recommendation for an appropriation of funds for continuing construction of the Central Utah Project by starting its Bonneville Unit. The Upper Colorado River Commission at a special meeting held in Denver, Colorado on March 5, 1965 unanimously endorsed a resolution requesting the U. S. Congress to make money available for this participating project. The text of the Commission's resolution follows: RESOLUTION by UPPER COLORADO RIVER COMMISSION In Support of Appropriations of Funds by the 89th Congress, First Session, For Construction of the Bonneville Unit of The Central Utah Project WHEREAS, the States of the Upper Colorado River Commission have traditionally worked for development of the water resources of the basin and have given unified support to the early construction of participating projects; and WHEREAS, the Central Utah Project, initial phase, was authorized for construction as a participating project of the Colorado River Storage Project by the Colorado River Storage Project Act of 1956 (70 Stat. 105), 9 years ago; and WHEREAS, construction since authorization of the project by the Congress of the United States has moved forward on the Storage 40 |
