Show 5. WYOMING a. Lyman Project The Lyman Project is located in Uinta County in southwestern Wyoming near the town of Lyman. As presently designed and planned, the project would serve supplemental water to 36,000 irrigable acres in the project area. Two dams - the Meeks Cabin and China Meadows Dams and Reservoirs - will be built by the Bureau of Reclamation and will comprise the principal features of the project. Construction Activities The Lyman Project repayment contract was signed by the Bridger Valley Water Conservancy District on April 8, 1964. Five landowners in the district opposed validation of the contract. The State District Court validated it on September 4, 1964, and the objectors filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of the State of Wyoming. On March 24, 1965, the Supreme Court sustained the District Court validation of the contract. On August 5, 1965, bids were opened for construction of Meeks Cabin Dam and access road. All bids were rejected as being too high, and new bids were called for March 15, 1966, under the same specifications. The dam will be a rolled earthfill structure, 3,100 feet long at the crest with a height of 175 feet, and will contain about 3,500,000 cubic yards of material. Work will also include construction of a roadway, structures, and surfacing about 15.3 miles of access road. Construction of a Government camp at Mountain View, Wyoming, is underway. b. Seedskadee Project The Seedskadee Project will provide for the irrigation of 58,775 acres of dry arable land along both sides of the Green River in an area extending from 14 to 50 miles northwest of Green River, Wyoming. It will also provide water for future municipal and industrial needs. Fontenelle Dam and Reservoir on Green River will be used both for storage (to a total capacity of 345,000 acre-feet) and as a means of diverting water from the river. A 10,000-kilowatt power-plant is under construction at the toe of the dam. Development of a wildlife refuge downstream from Fontenelle Dam will be an adjunct to the project to be constructed under Section 8 of the Colorado River Storage Project Act. 95 |
