Show to sell their farms to the United States, and this portion of the project was thereafter abandoned; and WHEREAS, several Wyoming review committees, after thorough study, had recommended rehabilitation and continuation of the project; and WHEREAS, such legislation is detrimental to the entire reclamation program, increases the already difficult problem of securing additional project authorizations and appropriations, and is contrary to the spirit and intent of reclamation philosophy: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it is the position of the Upper Colorado River Commission that no legislation should be considered by the Congress which permits or encourages the sale of farms to the United States on an authorized reclamation project or the abandonment of the project where a properly constituted review committee or the affected State has recommended rehabilitation and continuation of the project. Relief Model The Relief Model of the Upper Colorado River Basin and adjacent areas is available for display at conventions and other public events and has proved to be extremely interesting and instructive in promoting an understanding of the physical and hydrologic problems of the Upper Colorado River Basin and the development of its water and other natural resources. (See last page of this report.) Motion Picture The motion pictures in the Commission's film library continue to be widely distributed. In addition to filling requests for the picture entitled "The Lakes Made For You" showing the recreational benefits of man-made reservoirs, hundreds of requests have also been filled for motion pictures about Glen Canyon and Flaming Gorge reservoirs and other river basin subjects by utilizing films that have been supplied to the Commission by the Bureau of Reclamation, et al. Widespread interest has been created in recent years by schools, colleges, civic clubs, etc., in the benefits of river basin development. Undoubtedly some of this increased interest can be traced to the fact that since the completion of Flaming Gorge, Glen Canyon, and Navajo dams and reservoirs the American public is becoming more aware of the national benefits of man-made bodies of water in the Colorado River Basin and elsewhere. 45 |
