Show Under the Bonneville Unit the potential Strawberry aqueduct will intercept flows of Uinta Mountain streams as far east as Rock Creek and convey the water to the existing Strawberry Reservoir which will be enlarged by construction of Soldier Creek Dam downstream from the present dam. The stored water will be released through the Wasatch Mountains to the central Utah area. Through various exchanges and by the construction of new facilities, the water will be made available to an area extending from Salt Lake City about 75 miles south to the city of Nephi. Starvation Reservoir on Strawberry River with a feeder canal from Duchesne River will develop water for use in the Uinta Basin. The Vernal Unit, construction of which is now completed, includes the Steinaker Reservoir offstream from Ashley Creek, with a capacity of 38,200 acre-feet, Fort Thornburg Diversion Dam, Steinaker Feeder Canal, and Steinaker Service Canal. Construction Activities Preconstruction activities in preparation for construction of the Bonneville Unit are in progress. Designs and specifications for Starvation Dam and Reservoir are being prepared in readiness for award of a construction contract early in 1966. Assembly of design data for the high mountain collection works that will convey water into the enlarged Strawberry Reservoir is in progress. Preliminary right-of-way appraisal work for the Starvation Dam and Reservoir and Strawberry enlargement is in progress. The Board of Directors for Central Utah Water Conservancy District approved a draft of the repayment contract for the Bonneville Unit, Central Utah Project, at its special board meeting on September 20, 1965. The contract was approved as to form by the Secretary of the Interior on November 1. The Board of Directors will hold an election on December 14, 1965, on the contract seeking authorization from the electorate to execute the contract on behalf of the District. The headquarters office for Bonneville Unit features situated in the Uinta Basin will be at Duchesne, Utah. Advance Planning Plan formulation studies and foundation explorations are in progress on the Upalco Unit. In the Upalco area studies are being made of possibilities for reservoir storage to be developed and operated in coordination with the Big Sand Wash Reservoir constructed by the State of Utah offstream from Lake Fork River. 91 |
