Do you want us to continue forward?' He's like ' No I need you to move north and then west." So I'm like roger that. So we move to the north one block and then west and we run into our limited advance. That's where we were told, Route 5 was our limited advance. We're not supposed to move farther past that because 5th Marines was coming down from the north and doing an envelopment. Roger that. So we're at our limit of advance and we start taking all sorts of fire. We start taking fire from the front. Corporal Whacott is on his SAW and he is returning fire and he's laying behind this iron telephone pole and you can hear rounds hitting the telephone pole. So we bound the other two squads past first squad, so they that they can continue to engage and suppress the enemy and move. Stroh was right there with his SMAW team. Moved them out in the road to take a shot on another building where we're taking fire from. At the same time the CO comes up and he's like, "We need to find a position where we can move the vehicles and secure for the night." I'm like, okay, roger that. I'm like, we can do these vehicles in this courtyard right here. And he's like, "Yeah, I don't like that one." I'm like, "okay, roger, where do you want to go?" He tells us across the street kitty-comer to another building. Spencer, his squad was on the opposite side of the road, so I go over to him and I said, "Okay, here's the plan. We need to secure this building right here so we can set up a hasty defense for the night, the rest of the company." He looks at me and I'm like, "that's what we're told. Do it." So he gets his guys and him and three or four other guys-Lavulavu was one of them. They move 85
