Show DU TIN EXTON PT B R 12 20 9 I think division headquarters finally came up rolled through u m v d on at that point and we rolled on after that. Then we just played a leapfrog game from there forward. I don't remember the names of all the towns, Kasam was one we went into and we'd fucking rush into the town and we'd take up positions, hold the road until the rest of the units could come in behind us and then we'd close in our vehicles and jump back in the trucks and move on. I think that was another day. We stepped across the LOD on the 19th to the 21 st, I think is when we got to Nasiriyah, and then like the 21st through the 23rd, maybe, we did that leapfrogging. I remember one day we were sitting on the side of the road in kind of a rest position. We weren't in a town and we weren't holding a town; we were in between, waiting. None of us had slept in three days straight, none of the squad leaders. Captain Porter grabbed us three squad leaders and he sits us down on the bank like he's going to give us an order or something, We're all waiting, and he said, "Sleep." And we were out like that. So he's watching the platoon and all of a sudden we hear this, "Ah, fuck." Then this big rattle and clunk. I swear to God I heard him say "mommy" but I don't know if that was true (laughs). So I wake up and I run over there and Captain Porter was laying on the ground next to his truck. He'd fallen out of the cab. I'm like what the fuck? He's got Skittles everywhere. I'm like, "What the fuck happened, sir?" He said, "I stabbed myself with my atropine." I'm like, "Oh, fuck," because those are the drugs they give you to counteract the chemical agents. You carry them in your gas mask, which sits on your side, and he'd punctured. We'd gone through a bunch of classes on how not to frickin do 53 |
