Show CHARLES AND FRIEDA BYTHEW AY NOVEMBER 6, 2001 I thought It was horrible. But, anyway, he spent a couple of days here and I didn't like him at all. And I thought, oh, how am I going to get nd of him? Out of courtesy, I had him over for dinner at my house because he had come clear from California, after all. And, well, this is in '48 And then he went home and we kept wnting and sort of Intimating that he'd like to get a lot more friendly and stuff And In the meantime, I did meet Charles and was still wnting to this guy Then Charles and I got married and finally I says, "Oh, I've got to do something about this fellow" So I took our married picture, put it in an envelope and sent It to him and never heard from him again (laughs). BEC: Kind of laying It out plain. CHA: That'll do It. This is me and this IS my husband (laughs). BEC: Yeah (laughs). I was asking Fneda if she ever felt hopeless about winning the war and having the war end. FRI: You know, I think you're so young and you just take life as it is. You accept the world as it was. And maybe our younger people feel that way now because I say, Oh, dear I worry so much about what's coming up and I think, oh, my grandchildren. I've got all those boys. And they're such good kids and you just hate to see them going Into conflict If they have to. 'Course, It looks like wars are going to be somewhat different than they have been In the past. You don't see all the young ones going like they were. In fact, when you see them they're these ones going off that have already got families. Whereas, when he was exempt from it because I was JUSt expecting, going to have a child and now they're going when they've got families already It's different and they're older They're not young. 45 |
