I went down every day till I got familiar with the doctor and stuff and then my blood pressure went down and they said, "Okay, we'll keep you In the program." BEC: Oh, IS that right? CHA: Yeah. So I was still In the program. And then we finally-! only studied the classes I really like, like I liked math so I got A's in math, I hated history so I got D's In history So three of us decided we were going to flunk out and we were going to go to boot camp and JUSt be In the regular navy and so we all decided to get bad grades. But I still got A's in my math classes. They called it tarmac duty and what we did Is repmr PB-2Y sea planes. We'd take the skin off of them when they got worn down and put new skin on and nvet them back up to keep them In service. And we were there, oh, I don't know, four or five months and then they finally sent us to pre-flight school. And just before we went to pre-flight school, V -J day came along and the Japanese gave up and so when we went to pre-flight school they said, "Hey, the war's over; we don't need you guys anymore (laughs), and if you'll enlist for five years we'll put you on inactive duty" And I said, "Sure, why not."
