Show CHARLES AND FRIEDA BYTHEWAY NOVEMBER 6, 2001 BEC: (laughs) Oh, that's funny Did you enjoy the time you were In the navy? CHA: Oh, yeah. Yeah, it was all right. BEC: The training In New Mexico must have been kind of fun. You got college credit for that, didn't you? CHA: Yeah. I got a year-and-a-half of college while I was there. BEC: So that must have been kind of enjoyable, then. But did you have a sense of disappointment of not having actually gotten Into pilot training and maybe- CHA: BEC: CHA: home. BEC: CHA: BEC: CHA: Well, I was in pre-flight school- ! mean, not getting in an airplane and actually-yeah, I thought that would be nice to do that. But, I was glad to come Had you and Frieda met before the war? No. Before the war ended even? No BEC: All right. So Fneda, let's pick up with you. You graduated from South High School and what did you do after that? FRI: BEC: FRI: I went to work for Hudson Bay Furriers, making fur coats. Were you sewing them? I was. I was putting in linings and things like that, and then the furrier-because I was pretty young-decided he could probably train me Into sewing the pelts together And I tried. I did that for a while, out of mushn I would make the patterns 27 |
