Show CHARLES AND FRIEDA BYTHEW A Y NOVEMBER 6, 2001 BEC: Woolworth's? FRI: BEC: FRI: You were a sales clerk there, or what were you doing In I worked behind the lunch counter Oh, I see. We did that, then Dorothy and I took off to California and we stayed there for about three months. We went and found a place there and worked behind the counter and learned all the Jargons of calling out the orders and they had their certain little ways of doing that. We did that for about a week (laughs). BEC: CHA: FRI: BEC: FRI: Is that right? About a week? (laughs) About a week in California, but we did that. What took you to California? Was it a Job or just fun or a change You know, I just don't remember I do remember, the only thing I do remember really about It IS we were sitting In the kitchen and my older brother was there and Mom and talking about going to California for a while. And my mother didn't want me to do It and my brother says, "Oh, let them go get some expenence" and everything. And Dorothy and I took off. BEC: Just the two of you went? FRI: Yeah, and we stayed with an LDS family in there. And then we got us a little apartment-maybe she remembers better than I do on some of those things-but anyway, we did do that and, like I say, we tried the lunch counter there and after a week we decided we didn't like It because the people. I don't know, they were different than the people here In Utah and I guess we just, I can't remember 30 |
