Show Robert E. Irion eptember 20th 2002 H said ' I figured if you wanted to fly at fifteen thousand feet that s wher w ought to be." He never said a peep but he was freezing in that airplane up there! Ohman I felt dumb. But Leroy, it just actually took the goggles off his head. He had them up off of his eyes and it actually wiped the goggles off his head when that thing hit there. BEN: I guess it was just out of the slip stream then? ROB: Of the canopy hitting his canopy, the one flying by him, just could have scalped him right there. Anyhow, that was a dumb situation. BEN: When you get a strike like that, I don't know, is it time to celebrate? I mean, is there any? ROB: Oh yeah! We were all pretty happy when we got back, you bet. BEN: I mean, do you wait for your gun footage to come back? ROB: Yeah, yeah. BEN: Pretty quickly, or? ROB: Well, about three days to get the camera film back. BEN: Where do they show it to you? Where can you view it? ROB: Well, they send it back to our squadron and we got it so we could see, everybody, see what happened and all. We got, one time when the whole squadron got called in for some gun camera film, and it was a gun camera film of the squ().dron commander of this one, the "Do Nothing Outfit." What was it, the 504th that we always thought were present but never really did any of getting the action. And he'd shot down one of our own guys. 102 |
