Show W. DUANE PARKER ruary 14 2 02 WIN: So Algiers, maybe? DUA: Algiers. We'd sit there, and we could look up and see the city from the harbor, but nobody got off the boat. WIN: Couldn't get off the boat. DUA: I don't know why we stopped there, but we did. WIN: How long? DUA: It seemed like maybe a day, or a part of a day. I don't know why that occurred. You know, memory gets to be a little foggy after all these years. WIN: Yeah, it probably seemed like a week. DUA: We weren't there for very long. I know that. WIN: Just being able to see land there and not being able to get off . DUA: Yes. WIN: Not knowing what you were doing. I bet time really dragged. DUA: And that was about the time they told us where we were going. Up until that time we didn't know we were going to Italy. We didn't have any idea where we were going. WIN: You must have figured that out after you went through the Straight of Gibraltar though. DUA: Well, yeah. And that's about the time they told us, you know. WIN: And so you stopped for a short period oftime outside, or out in the bay, of a North African city. And then they set sail again and took you up where? DUA: We anchored just about the harbor, the outer harbor ofNaples on the 22nd of December. WIN: So on the 22nd of December you're outside of the Harbor ofNaples? DUA: Yes. WIN: Did they keep you on the ship long, or did they start disembarking immediately? DUA: No. We were there- well, I don't remember what time we got into that port, but then the next morning they moved us into the inner harbor; and man, it was a mess.
