Show My dear Brother:
On November 30th, I mailed you two checks signed by myself, one of them for $100.00, from my wife, was payable to you for* your salary. The other $100.00 was payable to Mr. Peyton for salaries. As I have received no receipt for the same, I fear that the letter has gone astray. If you have not received it please let me know at once that I may stop payment on the checks.
I am arranging to spend a Sabbath in January in Auburn in behalf of the College, and will, of course, see the Misses Willard and try to explain matters to them. I understand that Rev. Mr. McCreery, while making addresses in favor of the amendment is also looking out for wealthy individuals whom* he can reach in the interests of the College.
Parties collecting money at the present time state that there seems to be an unusual backwardness on the part of people in responding.
I have been recently making addresses in New Haven and enclose you a plat of the location of the University Buildings

* handwritten inserts in the original typewritten document

|
Further Information |
In this letter to Robert McNiece, Sheldon Jackson asks for receipts for two checks he and his wife had sent him. The checks were to go towards Mr. McNiece's and Mr. Peyton's salaries. Sheldon Jackson then writes he plans to visit Auburn and seek aid for a college, and that Rev. McCreery is also seeking aid for the college. He then comments he has enclosed a map of the university buildings' location. |
