Show Department of the Interior,
Bureau of Education,
Alaska Division,
Washington, D.C., February 25, 1901.

Rev. R. G. McNiece, D.D.,
#1248 Blaine Avenue,
Salt Lake City, Utah.

My dear Doctor McNiece:
General Eaton and myself have been conferring concerning the work in Erie Presbytery, and we think possibly money may be raised by which we can get the walls up and enclosed at least, this coming year. We are thinking of taking the plans of the several floors, procuring the number of square feet in each, and then divide the $35,000.00 cost by the aggregate number of square feet, thus procuring approximately the cost of each room.
Thus we will be able to say to the friends in Erie Presbytery that if a church or individual raises the amount of money which is the pro rata cost of one room that they can place a name over the door of said room. It will furnish especially the small churches and Sabbath Schools a figure to work up to. I wish you would send me by registered mail the floor plans of the proposed building. I do not care for the detailed working plans---only the plans that give the division into rooms on the several* floors*, also the front elevation plan.
I hope it will be convenient to attend to this promptly** as the days are rapidly approaching when I will leave again for Alaska.

* handwritten inserts in original typewritten document.
** "promptly" is typewritten but underlined in ink

|
Further Information |
This unsigned letter is written to Robert McNiece and discusses funds being raised in Pennsylvania for a building. It then details the plans and costs for erecting the building, and further offers an enticement for individuals and churches to raise enough funds to build the rooms of the new edifice. The letter ends by asking for the floor and front elevation plans of the building, and notes the writer will soon be leaving for Alaska. |
