Show C.O.P.Y.
Titusville, Pa.,
February 20, 1901.

My dear Dr. Jackson:
I was very glad to hear from you. The packages of leaflets and books came and I shall be glad to distribute them where they will do the most good. I had been intending to write you and tell you something of our plan to raise funds for Sheldon Jackson College, but wanted to wait until I could give you some definite account of what Titusville would do before I approached the other towns or Erie Presbytery. My husband's father gives $1,000.00 unconditionally and $1,000.00 more in case the $27,000.00 is all raised in this Presbytery. Mr. Milton Stewart gives $500.00 conditionally---but I think he will give more. My husband's sister Constance is greatly interested and is helping me. One gentleman whom I counted on surely is "not interested" and will give nothing. But we are not going to get discouraged in the good work. The lady to whose death you referred was Mrs. Hoag and her family are not in a position to give much, if anything. I will let you know from time to time of our success or failure as the case may be. I earnestly pray for the former. At all events Constance and I will make every effort. We did enjoy your little visit so much, and trust sometime when all the money is subscribed you can come again. My husband wishes to be most kindly* remembered and Ellis and John often speak of you. Trusting that you are quite well Believe me your very sincere friend,
(signed)
Lilian Ellis Emerson.

* handwritten inserts in the original typewritten document.

|
