SALT LAKE BASIN PROJECT: The Salt Lake Basin Project, as It was originally called during the progress of investigations beginning with 1922, comprises several natural divisions located in the drainage basin of Great Salt Lake in the vicinity of Salt Lake8 Ogden, Provo and Logan. The divisions are well settled and are served by canal systems which were constructed principally during the pioneer days of Utah* 2he water supply is generally ample in the early part of the irrigation season but it is deficient during the middle and late summer months on the divisions where storage reservoirs have not already been constructed* WEBER RIVER PROJECT: The Weber River Project is the first unit of the Salt Lake Basin projects to be constructed © The engineering features include the Echo Dam ? located in Weber Canyon and the Weber- Provo diversion canal which connects the Weber to the Provo River about 20 miles up stream from the dame The Echo Dam is about 130 feet high and 1900 feet long and has a storage capacity of 74,000 acre feeto The storage water is used annual ly as a supplemental water supply on about 650000 acres of land in the Weber River valley and about 15,000 acres in the Provo Hiver watershed• She Weber- Provo diversion canal which is used to transport water from the Weber to the Provo River is about 9 miles long and has a capacity of 210 second feeto As a further develo^ aant9 it Is contemplated to enlarge this canal to 1^ 000 second feet to be used in conjunction with the Deer Creek reservoir on th © Provo Riv^ r projecta The Weber River Project wai constructed mainly from 1* 28 to 1930o |
