Show Page 60 PROVO RIVER PBOJZSTs A storage dam and reservoir will be constructed on the Provo River below its confluence with Deer Oreek and about IE miles southwest of Heber- An earth- fill dam to raise the water surface about 175 feet is planned, giving a reservoir capacity of 145,000 acre- feet* ^ hia storage will aug- ment the water supply now available for the irrigation of about 36,000 acres in the Utah Lake and Salt Lake valleys from Provo northward, which for many years have taken water from Provo River and Utah Lakec rrhe main source of supply is the Weber River and another available source is the Duchesne River* Water from the Weber will be carried to the Provo % ver through the Weber- Provo Canal, which will be enlarged to 1,000 second- feet capacity0 Duchesne River water will be diverted to the Provo River by a tunnel driven through the * fetsateh Divide* Main canals proposed for construction are the Provo- Uhion and the West valley* Relocation of the Heber branch of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and a highway at the reservoir site is necessary* The area of Utah Lake will be reduced by the construction of levees across Goshen Bay and Provo Bay* Inia will effect a saving in evaporation losses on the lake, which stores surplus Provo % ver water, thus permitting some Provo River water to be stored in the reservoir. Revision of the Jordan River will be necessaryo ^ « 0<, Larson is the engineer in charge, with present headquarters at Salt Lake Oity.
