Show WATER STORAOE POSSIBILITIES IN tTTAH Reservoir sites of large capacity have been examined and reported by the Reclamation Service but very little, if any, attention has been given the problem of developing reservoir sites of small capacityo Practically every stream in the State has some possibilities for this type of development In many cases the streams carry too much sand and gravel at high water time to make storage on the stream channel a profitable consideration; but if the Water Storage Program were combined with a Program of flood Control by which the sand and gravel were checked and held above flood control barriers she water may be diverted into storage reservoirs where sites are available at some little distance from the main ( drainage channel- An example of this is on Chalk Creek near Fillmore where a suitable reservoir site lies about 1 mile away from the stream channelo It is located between the County and State highway, to the North of Fillmoreo Another site of this type lies to the North of Ephraimo jQiere are numerous sites at the upper reaches of mountain streams such as at the Ulntahs and Wasatch Mountains where small lakes may be converted into reservoirs by raising the outlets and providing outlet gates0 At the lower reaches of many of the streams equalizing reservoirs combined with flood and gravel control barriers may be built for the purposeB first of checking gravel and sand carried at high water time and second, to equalize the runoff from streams at high water time and thus provide a uniform delivery so that the water nay be used efficiently where now it is only used in part and that very ineffi- |
