Description (1888 I) The twenty-eighth legislature in 1888 passed an act which formed a committee to compile all public acts, laws and resolutions in force in the territory. The compilation was to be systematically arranged, substantially bound, with marginal notes and proper index. The two volumes are arranged in parts, chapters, consecutively numbered paragraphs which are summarized at the beginning of each chapter, and sections. The index to Volume I is substantial and references page numbers. A general index covering both volumes is published in Volume II. A separate session law volume was published for 1888.

Description on or before the first Tuesday of July in each year; but the time may be extended or additions made thereto by order of '¦ the city council. On the return thereof the city council shall fix a day for hearing objections thereto, and any person feeling aggrieved by the assessment of his property may appear at the time specified and make his objections, which shall be heard and determined upon by the city council: and they shall have power to alter, add to, take from and otherwise be <j 369. s66. The collector shall be furnished, within thirty the taxes to be collected; and if not paid, the collector shall " § 370.867. All taxes and assessments, general and special, ."• shall be collected by the collector or collectors in the same by the law to collectors of county and Territorial taxes: jProvided, the council shall have power to prescribe by city ordinance the powers, duties and liabilities of assessors and § 371. s 68. The city councilshall have power to make, ordain and establish all such general regulations for the prevention and extinguishment of fires, fixing of chimneys, flues engines and other apparatus used for the extinguishment of the same, and have the charge and control of and provide, (it up and secure engine houses and other places for the keeping and preserving the same; to organize fire, hose and ladder companies, appoint foremen therefor and prescribe their and to impose reasonable fines and forfeitures for a violation § 372. s 69. The city council shall have power to provide for the election of trustees; to appoint a board of school inspectors and to prescribe the powers and duties of the same,
